Jetted tub out, freestanding tub and glass in

A 1990s master bath with a corner jetted tub, a framed shower and beige tile everywhere. Same room, same window: the tub became a freestanding soaker, the shower became a walk-in behind a glass panel, and one grey plank tile now runs from the shower wall to the floor.

Curtain rod to frameless glass

The guest bath in the same house. The builder tub and its tiled surround came out; a full-height walk-in shower with a pebble floor, a mosaic niche and a frameless glass door went in, with a new vanity, mirror and plank-look floor to match the master.

The leak nobody could see

The call was about a dated shower door. When the pan came out, the subfloor under it was soaked from a slow leak behind the valve. We rebuilt from the joists up before a single tile went in.

Demo to the studs

Old tile, board and pan out. Hidden leaks and rot show up here, and get fixed here.

02

Cement board

Never drywall in a wet area. Screwed, taped and mudded before anything else.

Shower walls, bench and pan coated in red liquid waterproofing membrane
03

Waterproofing

Liquid membrane on every wall, the pan, the bench and the niche. Two coats, flood tested.

04

Leveled tile

Leveling clips on every large-format piece, so the wall reads as one surface.

Why it matters

A cheap bathroom quote skips the board, the membrane and the leveling. It looks the same on day one. It doesn't in year three.

03 · The crew

The same two people, start to finish.

No day labor and no rotating faces in your house. The pair that tears the bathroom out is the pair that hands it back to you.

07 · About

Family run by Renato Lessa.

Contemporary Flooring & Bath is a long-established Central Florida company, owned and run by Renato and his family for the past eight years. Bathrooms are the part of the work we like most: small rooms where everything has to be right, and where the difference between a careful crew and a fast one shows up in the second year.

Renato answers the phone, does the in-home visit and is on site through the job. The crews are fixed, not day labor, and a bathroom is never more than two people who have worked together for years.
